Tiffany St. James

Tiffany’s personal mission is to embed better digital capability. She helps people to understand how to make immediate, practical use of technology and inspires and excites people and organisations.

She has worked with Sir Tim Berners-Lee to get the government started on the digital road, and most recently led the social media platforms following the tragic Grenfell Tower Fire.

Tiffany speaks worldwide at industry and corporate conferences, to address organisations large and small, at schools, colleges and universities, and as an after-dinner speaker.

With the smart use of research, and using her extensive connections at the most senior level as a UK-leading digital consultant, Tiffany hones tailor-made talks for each audience. She brings alive real issues and shows how to face those challenges, from recognising emerging talent to harnessing the value of cultural innovation.

As a speaker, Tiffany is clear, engaging, enlightening, highly knowledgeable, approachable, charming and with a lovely sense of humour. She wears her high-level connections lightly, is a mine of information and definitely worth hearing.

Tiffany is the former Head of Public Participation (Social Media) for the UK Government and was the strategic lead in Cabinet Office for Social Media. She ran the world's largest web-rationalisation programme, was the first Director of Communications for Directgov and the first Head of Digital Policy Communications for the UK Government. She launched Data.gov.uk with Sir Tim Berners-Lee. Together, they continue to work towards making the UK Government the most transparent in the world.

Tiffany cut her teeth on public speaking whilst in Government. She trained 500,000 UK civil servants on social media as it was first evolving. This included negotiations with developing social media platforms. Tiffany presented each month to international governments on the world-leading UK government agenda on digital and transparency.

She has spoken internationally since 2010.

Tiffany founded, and manages, the digital management consultancy Transmute, which helps large organisations and governments to embrace digital change through the smart use of digital strategy, cultural innovation or workforce digital competency programmes. Transmute’s clients include Google, M&G Investments, National Trust, the Abu Dhabi Government, Cabinet Office, UK Parliament, Prudential, TalkTalk, Norton Rose Fulbright, The Telegraph, Viacom and Westminster City Council.  She has delivered more than 300 digital training courses to over 10,000 people.

Tiffany wants Britain to become a digital powerhouse and she nurtures talent through greater digital capability.

“It was an absolute pleasure having you as the chair at last week’s Telegraph’s Digital Leaders conference. I very much hope that you will consider working with us again, not only on Digital Leaders, but at other Telegraph conferences. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that the feedback we received from all the attendees at the conference was extremely positive. We were trying to break the mould with this event and to address digital transformation from a business and commercial perspective, rather than focusing purely on the technology or marketing capabilities. All the feedback suggests that we achieved our aim and delivered a high-level conference that demonstrated the commercial potential for all types of business through digital implementation.” The Telegraph
