Working for agencies
"Energetic, challenging, exhilarating... in a nutshell, that's how I'd describe my experience of working within an agency. As an Account Handler, I'm constantly on the move (literally!). An average day could take me from a client presentation to brainstorming for a new, exciting integrated campaign, and a whole lot more! No two days are ever the same at an agency, so good workload management and organisation are key personal attributes for performing this role.
Working in a busy agency particularly can often involve turning around projects efficiently, in very short lead times. There have been instances where I have contributed to executing emergency email communications within 24hrs of receiving a client brief. So you can imagine the hard work, and extensive time commitment contributed to these types of projects. However, as an Account Handler, this tends to be part and parcel of your role to exceed clients' expectations, in order to maintain good relationships and essentially ensure your clients maintain their trust in you, and with their brands.
From almost two years of working with an agency since graduating from university, I would summarise my experience as fast-paced, exciting and a big learning curve, especially for someone like myself at the beginning their marketing career. What's even better is the energy and spirit present amongst all agency employees, making your working day most enjoyable. Work culture sees that everyone is there to support one another; work-related or personal. Plus, unforgettable Christmas parties and various company days out are there to show appreciation to staff for all their hard work and dedication."

"Fast paced, crazy but most of all fun! No two days are ever the same in account management - there are always new, exhilarating challenges popping up that require you to be the master of all disciplines. Working on fully integrated campaigns, handling every aspect of your clients' business requirements from the initial planning through to liaising with relevant departments.
Never be afraid to ask questions and be prepared to take the rough with the smooth because this job can be a rollercoaster of emotions.
Tasks can range from pitch presentations, signing off artwork, writing creative briefs and of course taking part in the fun stuff - Monte Carlo Christmas party anybody? Most of all, your ability to plan and prioritise tasks on a daily basis are essential to succeed in a constantly evolving industry. All of this is great, but you must have the desire and ambition to work in a fast paced environment because there can be long days and long nights - but believe me it's definitely worth it! If you are still not convinced agency life is for you - think of grey, dull accountancy or fun, cutting edge, energetic, inspirational marketers!"
